I'd be guessing lack of fuel, clogged filter/iffy pump.

As asked above, how much fuel does the gauge show?

put in £10 so should be ok. after an hour it started ok and run all day then went out later and would not start. im thinking the alarm system not to sure though. or maybe crank sensor but if that was the case it would not run at all

It was a joke I think. If you have a look at the points and open them with a small screwdriver and see a spark..... Oh poo, wrong decade!

Seriously,
the alarm error won't cause it, this is usually on because the siren is knackered, loads of threads on this.

If it was an immobiliser issue, would see a message showing 'start prevented see manual' or similar.

These cars can sometimes not start if they are low on fuel, possibly caused by a faulty fuel pick up in the passenger side of the tank or a partially blocked filter.

When you touch the bleed nipple on the fuel rail plenty of fuel comes out so would that suggest fuel pump is ok ?

Sounds like a loose or pin-holed return line, but thats maybe too 'old skool' given you have a self-bleeding pump.
From the little i've read on these they do need good 'within tolerance' injectors or fuel pressure is reduced to the extent of giving this symptom....

Fuel rail pressure reading using a dongle thingy will tell you if the tank pump is awake or not.
