Default Another map update

Just driven a short distance to home and noticed the blue download scroll at the top of the screen - North West Europe Installing.

It looks like version 1256 is in progress OTA, the same download is available on the Volvo site too:

I have too now have 1256

BTW, I have never had to use USB. Always OTA, although 1253 initially kept saying update with USB, but in the end it updated via OTA about 4 weeks ago.

Another one, what a waste of time!

I've not yet updated to 1253 and certainly not updated every other month.

Once a year is more than enough unless the road network throughout Europe has materially changed.

If you mean the NE Europe updates, I wouldn't see it as a waste of time as such, it just happens seamlessly in the background.

Possibly some issues with sim data usage limits if updated occur too close together, but they generally don't in my experience.

I think it's good that the maps are regularly updated and the map updates are cumulative so both frequent updaters and those who wish to miss a few versions and update less frequently are catered for.

I don't use a SIM I don't feel the apps and online stuff is worth the agro and cost, just connect the phone for RTTI. It takes about 2 hours to download to a USB and like I say they are very subtle changes and likely to places you'll never drive to, once a year is more than adequate. I had a 2015 XC60 and never updated maps once, it took me to the door on every occasion I drove into France.

Personal choice I know but I think you can get too carried away with these things.

If you live in a new subdivision, you may not be on the map, and thus wish to have your home street appear ASAP.

If you live in an old established area with almost zero street changes, you won't see or appreciate the changes that get regularly published.

Everyone's experience is different, as no other Volvo owner lives in your house on your street driving where you drive.

Personally, I place great value on regular updates, and would welcome monthly updates. But the system I have only gets updated once every 2 years....
