Default SAS easy to install??

I am getting the "Anti Skid ervice required" message. After a couple trips to the dealer they state I need a new Steering angle Sensor. I gues its also known as a contact spring. My question is, what is involved in replacing this.

I've just had this dealt with on my new 10-reg Exec.
They said it was a faulty sensor relating to the AWD mechanism.
Indeed, I had a second warning message a little later saying AWD service required.
Related to a seal somewhere also - seal, sensor and some lubricant replacement required. They had my car a day.

Get a SAS software upgrade first , the parameters have been altered to make the SAS more relaible .. mostly this works unless there is a mechanical problem with the SAS ...

What exactly is this?

if I go to my dealer and ask for the latest software update, will all these type of things be included automatically in the download.
As far as i am aware, i cannot see that my car has had a software upgrade at all (54 reg) - will I get any benefit from it, as it runs fine.

It is the software which controls the SAS ( Steering angle sensor ) It measures how many degrees the steering wheel is turned left or righjt . ( If your steering wheel is not central it will post this message , because when going straight the reading should be 0 degrees ..)

You only need a SAS upgrade as thats the problem you have .. there are many modules on the car , you cant update them all , and little point unles you have a defined problem with one or more of them . your dealer should already be aware of this SW upgrade for the SAS and anti-skid message ...

i had the dealer perform the entire CAN upgrade. This is suppose to upgrade every bit of software and module for the entire vehicle. Still no dice on the SAS code. So he says it needs to be replaced. Anyone have the procedure on how to replace the SAS?

SAS is easy to replace. Make sure the front wheels are pointing straight. 1st remove the -ve connection to the battery. Then undo the 25Torx screws on the covers. Next remove the airbag - make have 25Torx screws or clips both of which are accessed from underneath the steering wheel. Remove the connectors and place the airbag facing up on the floor safely away from you. Then use 18mm spanner / socket to undo the steering wheel. Make sure you mark the position of the wheel before removing. The SAS is held in with 3 screws and you can remove the cable connected to it.

Installing a new one, follow the instructions to ensure the SAS is setup properly and reverse the instructions above.

Hi, be sure you get correct unit for your m/y.

I got my indie to change mine. He charged me minimum cost for this and I was sure an 'e pert' did the job. Of course codes need resetting after fitting.

Cheers
