Question 2-1-2 what to do?

Morning all,

Got a 212 fault code with Lamda light on.....Oxygen sensor signal faulty or missing.

Couple of questions please.

Firstly, is this the sensor that is Pre-Cat, ie engine side of the Cat?

As it is electrically connected, a normal socket won't do. What size specialist socket does one need (where from?) or can you get it out with a open spanner and some WD40?

Having got it out, can one clean these with carb cleaner to get working/signalling again properly...or are they gone when they say they are gone?

Car is idling very smoothly and pulling like a train (Mumby MBC)...is there anything else that could of caused the 212 to appear?

Thanks all,

Joe

You can buy a proper "oxygen sensor socket" which is a deep socket with a slot up the side for the wires, if you can get in with a spanner you might get it (top of my head I cant remember the size) but they can get a hell of a hold

Have you tried deleting the code and seeing if it comes back on. I had this after 'grounding' the exhaust on someones steep driveway. It didnt come back on after I deleted the code so am presuming the jolt registered a fault and lit the warning light.

Hi Trojan,

Yes, have cleared the fault several times. Always re-occurs just as I am pulling in to work...guess we both feel the same about that!!

Figure that I gotta pull it out, just wondered if it was doable with a spanner as opposed to the 'special' socket and also if the sensor probe wiuld clean up and read correctly...or should I just go ahead and buy a replacement to fit once I have got the old one out?

Also wondered - what with the multitude of codes that these cars can throw up - whether anything else could of caused the car to do a 212...or is it the case that it is what it says on the tin, ie: O2 sensor knacked....replace!

Cheers,

Joe.

Which engine is this? Have you checked the connections near the sensor?
