Looking for an Amazon Estate!

Hello,

I'm trying to find a solid Amazon Estate. I had one a few years ago, I bought it cheap but ended up spending a lot of money sorting it out (usual story but i've learnt the hard way!). I then had to sell it due to financial circumstances and have regretted it ever since!

This time around I am happy to spend more initially to buy a car that doesn't need any major work. Happy to do some work but would like to avoid lots of welding etc. Ideally i'd like one with overdrive and twin carbs.

I live in Bristol but am happy to travel, does anyone know if anyone is selling one? Or who to speak to? Is Tony Barrett still the man to speak to? He did a lot of work on my previous Estate.

There is an Estate on Ebay at the moment but it's in Edinburgh, a long way to go if it's not the one! Anyone know the car?

Any advice would be gratefully received!

The one on eBay was owned by a member on here who passed away and was bought by James (grimjim67). Looks like James has done some welding on her which was needed. It's far from perfect but looks better than when I last saw her, I'd get in touch with James and ask him. The old owner John use to drive the car from near Newcastle up to Dundee, so mechanically most likely pretty sound. I'd seen that one, it does look good but as you say, pricey! What should I be paying for a solid estate? I know that's a bit of a 'how longs a piece of string?' question but a ball park figure would be good. I didn't pay much for the first one I owned but that was about 7 years ago and it needed a bit of work.

from the sounds of it you want a very solid clean and complete amazon estate so i will expect to pay in the area of £5000 upwards .

last year there was a cracking one for sale in cambridge went for a bargin price of £2500 so its not unheard of dropping onto a solid car but these days everyone knows what there worth so unless you get one that needs some work ( maybe stuff easier todo like a blone engine , ropey interior etc ) then i would aim around the figure i said the higher you go the better the car but always have a good look close at anything you think of buying and see whats out there gut instinct is a must ! dont follow your heart if you dont mind hanging on till next year i have one i will be doing in dark blue , also another one which i have in the pipeline will have a remote OD and customised interior dark blue again so a few options

or if the money is right i might part with my main project but thats in a class of its own completly overhauled and customised with full chromework and remote OD , brand new Torq Thrust alloys + tyres but i would want around £6500 min for that car to part with it unless i take the chromework off the car and go standard everythings for sale at the right price

that actually looks a real nice project but would need a few thousand spent onit but awsome project non the less if i was closer and a few projects sold would be having a punt at that myself

some work could be done while using the car but main parts is the welding on backend from what i see arches , rear box sections as seller has said but no doubt bits like the outriggers will need tidying up

Thanks Robert, Both the cars you are talking about sound spot on. I've got about £4000 to spend and at this point don't have any more to spend on any major work that might need doing. I want to make sure that I don't buy the wrong car, I have before and hopefully this time i'll be buying with my head / gut instinct not my heart!... But it's difficult, I know what to look for to an extent but I still got burnt a few years ago... What sort of money would you be looking for for the dark blue one? Could you give me some more detail? Thanks again for the advice, i'm a relative novice really so all advice is gratefully received! Tom
