I ordered 4 litres of CHF11 so will flush out all out.

I then cracked on, removed the aux belt and found this…

I think Stevie Wonder installed the last tensioner. Missed the alignment peg and also didn’t tension the belt.

Onwards!
Well it seems I was quite lucky that I checked the timing belt…

I got as far as I could, I’m waiting for my 300NM torque wrench to turn up tomorrow. So I decided to replace the rear handbrake pads and discs…it looks like this was my third lucky strike (fourth of you include the other side falling apart as well!)

Attachment 152393

Refitting the pads and an oil service tomorrow. I wonder what that holds!
it looks like you just rescued this car in time keep up the good work.

Off side indicator intermittently cutting out, assumed lamp holder same as the other side which went a couple years ago

Except of course because its a volvo I had to spend 20mins taking the bumper off first and pulling out the headlight to get to that corner. Top marks to whoever designed that . Anyway 1 little blue box and an osram lamp later, job done and seems to have resolved the issue fingers crossed

Annoyingly that made me look too closely at the wheels and I realised they're getting a bit smooth (although tread depth plentiful) so I rotated the front and rears, which also turned into a wheel cleaning session and that turned into a wheel arch and brake caliper clean up (to show off the nice gold paint)

On the plus side I checked that replacement drive staft stretch fit boot someone asked me about recently and can confirm, still good as new no signs of wear or damage whatsoever

Topped up coolant since about 18months ago and same as it was then, about 300ml or so required

Oil has dropped about 10mm on the stick since last checked again about 18 months, will just leave that a while no point buying a whole bottle just for a minor top up, probably do another oil change within the year anyway

Gearbox fluid still at right level and nice bright red

Steering fluid still slightly seeping from the seam as is tradition even though I've replaced the tank. If I have to buy another bottle might as well do another flush I guess only takes 10mins

Now I can get back on with the welding on the mini

Nice work on the headlamps.
Are you fitting new lenses ? Is the projector mounted in the original dipped beam reflector ?
Can the same work for RHD headlamps here in the UK ?
Thanks

Took my rusty front drivers wing off and fitted the tidy used one I have had in the garage for a few months. Easy job although had to drill out rivets, a torx both that had rusted out and need the angle grinder to remove the bottom nut as the captive nut had rusted out. Took an hour, also replaced a missing pin from the glovebox hinge so it no longer flaps about.

Just need to sort a bit of rust on the rear wing and fix the drivers heated seat and il be happy!

I put new plastic lenses on.
Original reflectors from the projectors are put back in, after they have a new mirror/chrome layer.. like new.
Can also be done by rhd xenon bending headlights.
A have 1 brandnew never used original Volvo xenon bending headlight for sale in the for sale ads on this forum.

For Mr Onewheel

Can you help please:
My car is a 2007 V70 D5 Geartronic, just failed its MOT because of fogged plastic headlights. The garage says they are beyond polishing, and I am trying to find replacements with no success. They seem unobtainable - mines are xenon with motors (presumably adjustment motors, not the swivelling type) and my local Volvo Parts Manager says they are part nos 31446849 / 31446850.

If you can do anything, or tell me where to go, I would be very grateful.

Brian

Lenses (lhd and rhd are the same, reflector inside is different for lhd and rhd cars) can be bought in Sweden by Vparts, very good quality, unfortunately they don’t ship to the uk….
If you have someone living in Europe you can let them order them and ship the lenses via your relatives to you..
Maybe some chinese company’s makes them as well, I don’t know, I only use the vparts lenses, for Xc/v70-s60 and Xc90’s….

Shame on me....almost.

Yesterday I inspected the electrolyte level of our 3 vehicles' batteries.
Mine, a new H6 installed by the dealership 7 years ago, took 22 ounces of DI water.
The cells were even, the plates weren't near exposed...but still, 108ml per cell!
Glad I caught it...no harm done.

With diminished driving, I've been throwing a charger on our batteries every couple of months.
I've read doing that keeps a battery close to "fully charged".

Do you find that after a big battery top-up the battery life is soon over?
