That will be the earlier B28E mechanical fuel injected engine which aren't as good as the later B280E for fuel consumption.
Mine has the B280E with the electronic fuel injection system and I can get around 26-27 mpg with a mix of motorway and town driving. The best my parents got from their B28E was 26mpg on motorway drive to Scotland from Essex, usually a mix of driving it would be more like 23-24 mpg

I ran a 760 B280 as an everyday car for 5 years. I also got around 27mpg with mixed driving. I suppose that's not too bad when you think it was an auto, was often loaded-up and an "F", not and "E". Certainly better than the B27/B28 which struggle to get above low 20's

I think the big problem is theres no real way to drive it economically, whereas a 2.3 turbo can be driven tenderly and give respectable mpg if required.
