Volvo independant
Hi all
I have a rack leak, which may need the rack changing, and if so I would like it done by somebody who knows what they are doing, but won't cost as much as going to Volvo directly. Can I ask, has anyone used these guys? http://www.riverwayworkshop.co.uk/ (based in Harlow, Essex) They are the nearest independent to me thanks

Hi, I appreciate that you are looking to replace your rack. May I suggest you try a bottle of Lucas Stop Leak first. I threw a bottle in mine about a year ago and it stopped the leak. From memory its about £16.00 a bottle from ebay uk or amazon. jack

Mmmmmmmm............. might think about this one. It is a very small leak at the moment, so I'm not desperate to get it done intermediately. I have never been a fan of using anything in the car that stops leaks (with the exception of Captain Tolleys Creeping Crack Cure), as I'm sure its much better to do the job properly. However, I think the leak is from the pinion input shaft seal, which means a new or refurbished rack being fitted. Given the cost that is likely to be, this might be worth a go.
However, having read a few customer reviews on the use of the fluid ( many of whom give it high praise ) a few have said that it actually made it worse. Not sure how, but I don't want to run that risk either at the moment. Thanks for the information though.
