1982 760 GLE on eBay
It's a V6 which I've heard conflicting reports on. Worth a punt?
It's not mine, just interested in upgrading from a 240. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3211175261...84.m1423.l2649 |

Looks a very nice car.Something I would love to own if I had spare money to run it as it should be,And a nice covered area to park it.
Still sorned so paperwork is up to date. Now I though 760,s were fitted with the early 900 series front end(Before the 940 was launched)But this one is early 740 style? I'm constantly confused which isn't difficult Lol. Very early being a 1982 year as well. Go for it you know you want to. Regards Brian. |

I'll see what the price is come the weekend and hopefully not have a beer fuelled moment of madness. It's happened before, anyone want a 1980 Honda C90? Ooops.

Hmmm, have been getting quotes for it to be transported, as it's a non-runner the cost is way more than I bargained for. Double check the haulage costs if any of you are considering a bid.

I have a 1988 760, this is the shape where the 900 came from and the engine is the improved v6 (B280) the earlier version was the B28, there was problems with oil getting to the crankshaft hence a lot packing in, but that was well after 200k , was recommended to change oil every 3000 miles, the engine was developed by Peugeot Renault and Volvo, prv engine, due to the problems Volvo improved the design and better flow of oil, the later v6 B280 has been known to go over 600k, I'm hoping mine is going to be with me along time,
The 82 model is the very first of the 700s |

Avoid!
There are MANY problems with the B28 and B280E engines. I had a B280E and for example it had an apparently standard front exhaust section unlike any that a specialist exhaust place had ever seen - a single pipe not a twin pipe - which was going to need to be specially made if it rusted out. On the B28s if the downpipes fail it's allegedly an engine out job to change them. My B280E was very slow (about 10mph slower on my favourite test hill than my B234F - despite the B234F on paper being 155 bhp but the B280E 170 - and I think the B28 was less - and just SO un-urgent in acceleration. It was also VERY thirsty (20mpg if I did not go over 60). Eventually a "friend" melted teh engine for me because he did not check the water, and to be honest he did me a favour. It had one and one only virtue - a nice rumble at low revs after I deleted the centre box. But at high revs it was all mechanical thrashing noises. The B28 also has a WEIRD injection system that is a bugger to fix if it fails - I remember a saga of one car on here that was scrapped because of it - owner and several specialist injection engineers unable to get it to run.
Even if it's free, don't take it. Can of worms. |
