Wiring kit source?
I have had a witter tow bar fitted to my new XC60 but so far only with a universal wiring kit. Where can I get wiring kit that provides full integration?
Thanks |

Evening all
I wonder if anyone had tried this. I'm just about to collect a car with a fixed towbar. I'm not likely to use it very often so would like to take the end off, leaving the main bracket in place for future use. Has anyone attempted this and is there space behind the bumper to access the bolt holding it on? Thanks Todd |

Done myself on a XC60 Y14.5, not a hard job at all. I believe it took 2-3 hours to do it all.
i bought a genuine towbar from Volvo dealer on a well know website for about 400. That's included all bolts and electric modules. plus 30 for programming it in. |

Hi thanks for the reply. I was only intending to remove the end of the towbar, I was hoping to avoid a strip down and leave the mounting bracket in place. Then, on the very odd occasions I need it again, refit it with the single bolt holding it to the main crossbracket.

The beam you remove is Boron steel it is extremely hard you can't drill it .( look it up ) Which means it performs like something about 5 mm thick , it is designed to decelerate the car which goes into the back of you before it hits the volvo chassis a further 4 inches in and starts disintegrating .. This greatly softens the impact to the occupants of the car . The towbar is too hard it puts all the crash loads directly into the chassis which causes much more serious whiplash etc to the occupants and will probably write the car off as the chassis both sides will be damaged . The volvo towbar has been through the volvo safety centre crash test , so volvo know exactly how it performs, any other towbar hasn't of course so it's crash performance is unknown . .. The crash beam must be refitted . ..

the volvo towbar is designed to collapse in a certain way one the beam has done it's job in softening the impact … as I said it has all been tested in the volvo crash centre in Sweden .

Clan whats your opinion on the Brink towbar? I heard Volvo use Brink towbar as they don't make their own? The volvo brand one is about double the price of the Brink.
