Thanks guys, for the prompt and invaluable information.
It would seem that if I can't get a class 3 "used injector" then a class 2 will be OK providing that I only change the one. Reconditioning seems to be that you will get a good injector, but its anybodys guess what "grade" it may turn out to be. Cheers Steve |

Steve, if it was my 274k mile car (good work!!) I would take a punt on one of those £45 Ebay injectors but maybe get the fitting kit from Volvo, it's less than £20.
If you look on here, I'm not sure who it was, but they re-used the old spring clamp and managed to shear the fixing bolt off trying to tighten it up too much after the injector leaked in it's seat. Worst case is you fit the injector, it doesn't work for some reason and you then have to send it back. At least if you purchase via Ebay with Paypal you are almost certain to get your money back following a claim. And if you are lucky you might find a local bosch diesel specialist might give you the price of a few pints for your old injector, worth asking. Saying that though, was the price you were quoted for recon of your existing injector inclusive of removal/refitting? |

Considering the mileage I'd probably be going down the same route as you. I see you have posted for a class 3 injector in 'wants', good move. I would take a punt on reusing the supply pipe but just be careful of over-torquing and keep your hands and face away from it when it's working until you have established that it's not leaking. A jet of diesel at common rail pressure will cut deep into flesh.

Eventualy sorted.
Used parts Gateway to order injectors, the first two were worse than mine, there was so much leak-back they would'nt even start the engine, however there were no problems exchanging them or getting the refund. The third one worked fine ,it had the new style clamp and numbers I dont recognise, but it works fine. I got away with annealing the copper sealing washer and re-using the feed pipe with no leaks, so I'll just keep my eye on them. Starts like it should now, so I'm pleased. Steve |

It was taking a little more cranking time before it started, so I did a leak-back test and found injector number 3 would half fill the bottle before the others even reached the bottles.
I had replaced all the glow plugs the week before, because I had 4 bad ones, however it did'nt make a scrap of difference to the starting. |

I see. I'm thinking this could be the issue on mine then, if the oil change doesn't cure it then new injector time.
How's the leak back test done? Garage only job? |

If you google or youtube diesel injector leak back, you will find plenty of examples.
The cheapest kit I could find was about £50, I recon most garages would charge much less than this to make the test. I'm from Yorkshire so I found a way of making my own for "nowt" 6mm outside diameter tubing fits well into the top of the injector as a start, then you just need some small plastic containers. |
