Don't want to risk it failing on a 2000 mile road trip in France! Hopefully it will do something or else looks like something more complex in the transmission area... :-(
Have you fitted it yet? Any difference?

Get the rear tracking checked too.

Well replacing that last bearing has dropped the droning right down - the noise that is left now appears to be just tyre noise. Still not perfect but better now for peace of mind.

The 4wd alignment was last done about 10k ago and do it every time I wear out a set of tyres, so not that. Heres to a safe and successful roadtrip on the continent!

Great stuff, just like it was on mine then! Seems like rear wheel bearing wear is a common problem on the xc90.

His car is an 04 by my calculations and all Volvo's from that period were affected. It was fixed with redesigned seals years ago.

I'm wondering if the replacement bearing was an original one with the poor seal design rather than the redesigned bearing cassette. (or a none Volvo part) I haven't heard of the new ones failing before.

The alignment changes with wear on the suspension and if you hit a pothole or kerb it can be put out straight away.

Given you can go 40,000 miles plus between tyre changes it's not often enough. After 10k I would put money on it needing alignment.

Also remember you won't be charged as much if it dosn't need to be realigned when they check it. It's the adjusting that takes the time to do.

That is close to the time the problem was realised ( 56/07?)but I can't remember the exact date the new design was fitted from. Volvo were certainly paying for bearing replacement in May 07.

Anyone know?
