Default For Sale: B5254T3 whiteblock with M90 gearbox

As mentioned on another topic, I've decided to abandon my T5 project. Partly because the tunnel in my car is too small for the M90, partly because of difficulties insuring a car which left the factory with 55bhp which could potentially have 225bhp, so I'm going to focus on wringing some more power out of my existing engine.

I don't know much about Volvo engines. I bought a T5 almost by accident while looking for a 4-pot Ford Duratec engine. This one is thought to be from a Ford Focus ST and has Ford Duratec engine cover. That appears to be the only part o the engine Ford made.

As part of the project I bought an M90 gearbox which is currently mated with the engine - but there is no clutch.

My preference is to sell everything as one lot and I'm looking for £750. I'm located in south east Wales. Viewing is welcome, in fact it's encouraged. I can confirm the engine turns with a spanner. The gearbox turns by hand I was able to select gears when the lever was connected. I can't reply to PMs yet as I haven't posted enough, so if you do PM please include a phone number or email.

There is a crack in the plastic cover. It's been plastic welded, but I expect you'd want a Volvo branded cover anyway.

Before I bought the engine it was stored under a tarp. I painted the alloy, the only area I was concerned about are the VVT pulley which are rusty:

When I bought the engine it already had a modified sump. We modified it further but it warped and then cracked while being welded. There's enough left I think for an alloy welder to make a custom sump around, but perhaps better to buy another sump and start again.

I stripped a damaged T5 to learn a bit about the engines, and I kept anything which looked useful:

Early sump:

The bit of engine which goes above the sump:

These bits are included:

The turbo is from an earlier T5. I found a guy on ebay selling remanufactured turbos of the later type, but this one fits on nicely for RWD drive application, and I'm not sure the original one would.

The gear stick has been turned down to M10 thread.

New oil filter, sump plug, O-rings

Everything Volvo in these photos is included:

Parts of the loom, there's an ECU but it's not complete - e.g. no ignition key. I was going to run it with an Emerald ECU.

It was a bit rusty and given the price of new ones, I had the flywheel zinc-passivated:

and it's fitted with new Ford/Volvo bolts:
