Timing belt replacement
Not a volvo but not the point, story will be true for all cars.
Just had timing belt kit replaced on my golf. Whole car is a little smoother and quieter, I wasnt expecting that. On inspection, the old moving parts (idler, tensioner, water pump) had a little play in the bearings, the new ones none. This illustrates the importance of changing the entire kit and not just the belt - the rest of the parts arent designed to last. While at it the thermostat was replaced, very easy to do with all the gubbins out of the way, coolant drained anyway - the old one looked a bit scruffy, the car now warms up quicker.
