Good, you just always sound so grumpy about Volvo most of the time.

Do you drive in town a lot? I never get less than 40 mpg in my XC60 D5 AWD Auto and often pushing 45 mpg. I think you have the same car as me don't you?

Not grumpy, just very disappointed with the new XC90 and 4 pot engines. They will ruin Volvo's reputation IMO.

I loved the XC90 when I first seen it which makes it worse. The more I read about it, the more disappointed I get.

The interior and seats seemed really nice on my test drive, but some owners are reporting build quality to be very poor.

My driving is mixed really. But I tend to have a heavy right foot. I don't doubt it could return a better mpg.

My car is a manual. I didn't get on very well with the auto.

I like it a lot. I appreciate other cars in the class have a better engine, but I love the look of the car, spec and the interior.

Handling is nowhere near as bad as some reviews say even if the steering is very numb.

I can't get any where near 45mpg in mine, the best being 38 worst 33mpg and I'm not heavy booted.

Polestar map is designed for the higher energy fuels like Shell V+. Kev won't be able to match my mpg with the fuel he uses. What do you run on?

The other thing is I always run with my TomTom set to avoid traffic holdups and avoid using the brakes using all the tricks I learnt racing Human Powered Vehicles to conserve energy. {except drafting of course) Even when my wife isn't in the car and I can really push on. I virtually don't brake for corners just use anticipation and the handling of the AWD system. I always have my tyres set on the eco setting pressures as well of course.

I don't mind numb steering. You really don't want to feel the roads I mostly drive on. It has enough feel to tell when it's starting to break away and the traction control is about to come on and that's all you need really. The handling improves a lot for fast driving in sport mode. (4C suspension)

I would easily match your mpg if I drove like you. The old fashioned auto is a lot thirstier and slower than the manual.

Before you say "how do you know how I drive?", your claimed mpg means you can only drive one way. Like a saint on a Sunday.

Premium diesel is snake oil sold off the back of high octane petrol. Which is worth the premium, unlike the diesel with "secret" additives.

When my wife is in the car I do indeed. She screams very loudly if I drive the way I enjoy. However I go out on my own a lot for the fun of driving. It's the cornering I like. Anyone can go fast in a straight line. Too easy to rack up points as well on the motorways. The roads here are more technical than high speed. Most of the limitation is other drivers and not wanting to upset them. I was always been able to out corner anyone in the world in on the track my chosen sport.

The XC60 doesn't have an old fashioned auto though. The difference is 0.2 of a sec in the 0-62 mph time. However for towing and off-road work which I do, the automatic is the better version as the auto box can act as a low ratio gearbox. Also it fully implements the Active Cruise Control which the manual version doesn't. Active Cruise Control is a killer app in my opinion. I'd never have another car without it.

I only ever use branded fuel, (Esso, BP not many Shell garages around my way) but very rarely use the plus fuels I personal don't think they are worth the extra 10p a ltr.

Incidentally Volvo have said they will take full legal responsibility for their autonomous cars when being used in that mode.
