They do, but only for certain markets. Not in the UK, but for Europe, yes.

The UK car market has been abnormally slanted towards diesel for years as a result of government tax policy. The XC60 should be available with a modestly sized petrol engine (around 200bhp) in the UK for those who tootle around town most of the year but need the space for that occasional longer journey with the family.

I think everyone would prefer a Petrol engine in the XC60, if there was one as frugal as Diesel.

No EGR problems then!

Frugal petrol driven XC60 would have to be part electric and owned by drivers that do not like acceleration.

Ah, but the future fir petrol engines also includes going down the EGR route....

My petrol engined Volvo's have always had an EGR fitted. Even in 1984.

Not so much the future as the present for modern petrol engines - just google EGR problems on VAG FSI engines. EGR valves are a function of direct injection whether that it petrol or diesel.

My 1984 Volvo 245 had a carb and an EGR.
