Default V60 d2 geartronic

I have a v60 D2 with DSG gearbox and have two points relating to a 50k Mile service. The first is that I have had to get new rear pads replaced whereas the fronts are less than 50% worn, is this normal or is there a problem. The second is that they tell me a gearbox oil change is necessary as this gearbox us very delicate, again is this normal or is there a problem. The net result is a £680 service bill which was discounted when I complained, any views will be welcomed.

Sorry I can't answer your questions, I have only done 17K in mine. However I have a question as you have the same engine/gearbox as me. Do you get a vibration at around 1,500 rpm. Volvo replaced the clutches in my gearbox under warranty at 7K miles, when this didn't cure it suddenly it wasn't a fault, but a characteristic of the gearbox with the D2 engine. Not met anybody else with a D2 and Geartronic gearbox to ask.

Thanks
Andy

I don't have a D2, but, I was told my rear pads were also worn at my last service, and would need replacing in about 6 months (around first MOT, likely 50k ish miles!). I queried this and was told the electronic parking brake often required rear pads replacing sooner and before fronts. As this sounded vaguely plausible, I've not considered or queried it further..

Firstly it is not a "DSG" gearbox it is a "powershift" to be correct :-) DSG is a VW term .

Yes the gearbox oil and oil filter change is part of the 50000 mile service , not optional . It is Important for the wellbeing of the gearbox which has two large wet clutches .

Rear pads are wearing more than the front on cars which are being driven with lots of light braking , the car is set up to use the rear brakes more under these conditions. . Those that brake hard and long from high speed wear out the fronts first ( and use a lot of fuel ! ) .

Andy no I have not experienced this at all in fact the gearbox has not been any issue other than the shock of the cost of the 50k oil change which I was not aware of.

OK thanks, looks like it will need to be a bun fight with the dealership... Have a good Christmas.

First 50k is quite a distance so £680 doesn't seem so bad to me. Second a main dealer will always cost more than an indi.

You have an exceptionally good indi near you. Charlwood Volvo should you feel you'd like to reduce the cost of service and repair or get a lot more power out of your engine.

£405 for the 50k service alone.

I was beginning to think my rear brakes were binding as the rear wheels are always warm (not hot) when I get home.
I stopped being the last of the late brakers a number of years ago in my car.

The rear pads were pointed out and shown to me as needing attention when I recently had my car inspected to re-register it. It had been serviced and MOT'd at a main dealer in the UK 3 weeks prior to this check. My car is coming up to five years old and has 45k on the clock.

Re: the Powershift gearbox. Ford recommend an oil change every three years or 37,500 miles. Volvo go with three years and 54k (due to the 18k service interval). If the D2 has a shorter 12/12.5k service schedule I'd stick to the three year interval for the oil change.

D2 in our V40 has a 15k service interval. So 45k or 3 years for ours.
