Boot spillage
Hello
Picked up our 65 plate xc60 on Tuesday last week. A 1 litre bottle of beer exploded in the boot yesterday and I cannot see where the stuff has gone! I have taken the 'layers' under the boot covering off. I read a comment on the Internet that suggested it will have found it's way to behind the passenger seats, but I don't know if they can be lifted out (they could in my old car...). Any help\advice appreciated as the smell is unwelcome! And I'm concerned that it will go stale\moldy over time and stink the car out😔 Thanks Michael |

Sorry don't know the answer to your question - but be thankful it was not milk that you spilled otherwise you would probably be looking to replace your car.

Have you folded the rear seats and traced any run lines ?
To get rid of smells in a car decant some malt vinegar into an old jam jar and sit in the rear footwell (lid off). PUT A POST-IT NOTE ON THE STEERING WHEEL AND ANOTHER ONE ON THE WINDSCREEN IN CASE THE ONE ON THE STEERING WHEEL FALLS OFF reminding you, you have an open bottle of vinegar in the rear footwell. Leave overnight or for a day or so. Works for milk and baby puke.

+1 to GMcL's advice above - I had a 2-litre carton of milk break open in the boot of my old Mondeo. Despite mopping up as much as I could find, the interior stank, especially around the area of carpet on which the milk had spilt.
I did the vinegar trick - a cereal bowl of it in the rear footwell (any type of vinegar works, it's the acetic acid that is the active ingredient here) and I also sprayed some vinegar directly onto the carpet that had soaked up the milk, from a plant sprayer. Worked a treat. After one night the smell had almost gone; after a second treatment, it had gone completely. |

Thanks for the heads-up guys.
Amazing what uses Vinegar has other than putting it on Fish and chips! Apparently there's a book on all the things you can do with vinegar.

I think you can use cat litter as well. Unused of course. Seats defiantly come out but I don't know how.
