New XC70 owner saying Hi!
Hi everyone,
I’m new to this forum, I’ve joined after receiving some recommendations from the XC70 Facebook group. I’m the kind of owner who likes to get involved with the maintenance of their car and I’m not afraid to get stuck in. In fact I had the dashboard and door trims off the car within 10 minutes of collecting from the dealership, I had arranged to swap them for wood veneer ones from another owner who met me. I bought my 08 XC70 about a month ago and I absolutely love it to bits. I’ve driven Jaguar XJ8’s for the last 11 years so I was ready for a change. I’m pleased with my decision, but there are a few little things I’d like to do on the car and there’s a few little things that need fixing. These little things would probably be ignored by most, but I’m Mr OCD when it comes to things not working correctly. Just yesterday I replaced the tailgate struts after following Volvosweden’s YouTube advice, I also decided to add additional lighting to the boot area for some odd reason. It’s worked out great though, it’s a lot brighter in there, it’ll come in handy I’m sure. The next thing I would like to address is the P selection not illuminating on my shifter, it’s giving me sleepless nights I’m looking forward to becoming a regular contributor to your forum. Thanks for having me.

Welcome. It's a great car; understated but it does more than it says on the tin! I've just had the Polestar optimisation done on mine and it transforms the beast! Worth considering if you've got £700 to spare.

Thanks for the replies, I’m happy to be here. The Volvo is very different to the Jags I’ve driven for the last decade but I’m very happy with it. My V8 Jag was a lot faster than the Volvo, but it was very rare that I got to use any of that performance owing to traffic and speed restrictions everywhere. However saying that, once you’ve wound up the D5 she does pull up her skirts and run.
I have read about polestar upgrade, it’s something to think about. There are a number of options open to me though, such as independent remaps and tuning boxes. But before I start looking at things like that I need to prioritise getting other things done like a detachable tow bar and changing the fluids in the transmission, differentials and haldex. What I really like about it is the ride, it’s so comfortable. Imperfections in the road are almost unnoticeable, it’s like being on a magic carpet. The seats are lovely too, I really appreciate the 3 stage heating and cooling functions. The Jag’s seat heater was thermostatically controlled, I found they didn’t get hot enough because body heat would be enough to open the thermostat. I’m having the car detailed on Saturday, a full paint correction and protection treatment. I’m really looking forward to getting that completed.
