engine flush
A total "L" plater to these engines [as yet], so please forgive my innocence, LOL.
Being as this particular range of D5 engines run 0w/30 oil, whats your honest opinion on using an oil flush addative before dropping the old oil out. Mine done 165k. I used to be a firm believer with my ever faithful 940 and always used it every oil change. BUT I don't know about these engines [yet]. yes, ive already done the dirty and cleaned out the egr valve and cooler assy, I had to replace the intercooler due to a 60mm long tear along one of the upper cross tubes, so that's clean too. So is it to be a Yes or a NO !!! |

For me it is a No
Just change the oil regularly. As the car is new to you, change the oil, then change it again after a few hundred miles (as good as a flush), then as a minimum every 5000 after that. The last thing you want to do is loosen any "sticky" deposits lurking in the engine and clog something up, using some "super engine clean additive" (starts flame war )

No combustion thrown from this corner at least, only time I'd "flush" an engine is with the head & sump off just to get any sticky sludge off internal surfaces & washed straight into a drain pan. Loosening cooked on deposits in a running engine is asking for trouble IMO since it only takes one chunk to get past the filter (if the filter becomes blocked, usually there's a bypass valve to prevent oil starvation. Lots of old crap loosened = more likelihood of blockage et voila, unfiltered chunks of yuck mainlined direct to your bearing surfaces/clogging galleries).
There is a time/place for flushes in engines known to be hard on their oil & if the engine's maintenance history is known to be good/have included regular flushes from new. On something older with less certain history it's a gamble too far for me though. I'd second the idea of doing multiple changes in short succession though, especially as modern synthetic oils do a far better job of keeping contaminants in suspension & off internal surfaces.

Throttle body perhaps,
I also agree on the wise words about engine flush (ing)
If your looking for something that will def need a cleanout, and can save you around £400 for a replacement throttle body when it jams and self destructs , I would recommend having the throttle body off, for a look... will post some pics if your interested |

Nope, dont flush, its not worth the risk.
Use a quality oil with high detergent level and the engine will be gently and safely cleaned and kept clean. |

Thanks for the picture, but my D5 engine don't appear to have a throttle body to remove and clean. all the throttle work is done via the high pressure fuel pump [drive by wire jobby].
sorry to blow cold air across your soup spoon . |

Its not a throttle body, its somewhere near the egr, it shuts the air off in tandem with fuel cut-off for a more definite and controlled engine stop.
