Default Volvo to become electric only within 20 years!

Realistically, how feasible is this?

2040.. I certainly hope we will have a truly sustainable and practical solution for vehicle propulsion by then.

20 years is a very long time. I don't see why they can't achieve that.

I'm all for change and happy to go all electric in the short term, but not entirely convinced battery power is the long term answer in it's current format without massive infrastructure changes and 100% renewable electricity supply (and then there's battery production/disposal issues).

At this rate 50% of the population will need a boat rather than a car anyway...

Yes it is since the first products were already introduced back in 2017.
It's 2019 and they already commercially launched their first all electric SUV using Android Automotive and will conquer the title of most safe car in the world.
The SPA2 platform that will debut in 2022 will only have petrol hybrids and electric options available.
So I think that they are pretty advanced on their plan and may even arrive to that objective in 10 years time instead of 20.

My concern is that the infrastructure will not keep up with demand. I believe that we are currently just producing a 5% surplus of electricity. Just imagine trying to charge an additional million cars with, lets say, 50kwh batteries. We need to have a major rethink on how we keep up with demand.

I’m very tempted to place an XC40 recharge order. 20 years is loads of time.

I don't think it will concern me. I'll either have given up driving or dead, can't imagine not being able to drive, so I'm going for dead. Lol
