My 2005 D5 is dead, why?
Hello, help and advice please.
I have a V70 D5. I bought it a year ago. It has a full Volvo dealer service history from new. In May this year it had it's 96000 mile timing belt service done having covered 95893 miles. At the service the dealer noted oil had been found in coolant and advised a possible head gasket problem. It has now done 98000 miles and last week was booked in for an MOT and a chech of the oil in coolant situation. Two days before the check it came up with a warning light about low coolant, was towed to the Volvo dealer and they checked it out. Basically the engine is now dead. The cooling system, hoses and radiator, are full of a thick sludge. Head gasket problem was identified as possible cause but on removal of head was found to be ok. Therefore is going to cost a lot more to investigate further or replace and basically it is not economical to do so. I seem to have lost a fortune on the car overnight and am rather unhappy! The D5 is supposed to be pretty bombproof so what has happened to mine, any other similar experiences and most importantly advice about what I should do with the car noew please? Thanks |

OMG you drove the car for 2000 miles after it had been found to have oil in the coolant? Surely the dealer advised further investigation at that point? If not they want shooting!
Is it an auto? Could be the oil cooler in the rad has rusted through and let the oil and coolant mix. Was any investigation done at all e.g. coolant tested to see if there were combustion gasses in there? 2nd hand engine would seem to be the way to go if the rest of the car is sound. |
