Default S80 Depreciation

Autoexpress reakon the S80 is the highest depreciating car. They reakon that after only three years it will have only 19.3% of it's value as it's trade in value

Somebody tell me I am understanding the article wrong?

just had a quick nose a 2011 car with 25K on at my local new around 31K now is 15.5K above average miles and 1/2'ed in value.

i love the s80 if a i am honest, plus you can get 11% off one which means it is more viable for VOC members IMO.

Volvo has always had high depreciation rates but that is utter crap, what AE write. AE are the British Version of "Auto Bild". Auto Bild is known here in Germany to stir the poop. They reckoned the C30 would be worth something like €5000 after 2-3 years, even if they were the "top of the range" models. The opposite has happend (here). The absolutely empty models with nothing else than a steering wheel, aircon and radio, and 5 years old, are around €8000.

Though as I hit a deer a few weeks ago, my insurance "expert" (he works for VW...) said my car was a write off, with a repair cost of €3000. Got in a second opinion from a Volvo expert: value (for a 5 year old car with 130.000 km (about 85.000 miles!) around €14.000!

People will try their hardest to get the value to the lowest rate. Here in Germany it is even easier, as people trust VW, Mercedes and BMW but will not trust what other people say about proper value!

I also wonder how "experts" can predict a depreciation in advance. I haven't yet heard of functionen crystal balls... Mine is still smokey but according to "Acme Crystal Ball" it should be up and working - by 2091!

Hello,

I used to own an S80 T6. I paid less than the original owner paid for optional extras!

It was 6.5 years old with 59,000 on the clock. As someone who likes S80's but could only ever afford second hand cars I think they are marvellous. If I win a few thousand on a scratchcard I'll be buying an S80 pronto!

:0)

About right id say as said makes buying used a treat let someone take the huge hit and you pick up a cars that likely almost as good as new for buttons

When I enquired about second hand S80s at my local Volvo dealer a few years ago, I was told that they were a niche product with few on the market, and little demand.

Apparently most of the new S80 stock has taken by Virgin over the past few years. Hence most of the used S80s that you see on a dealers plot are ex Virgin fleet. I know that mine was one of them!

They put a lot of miles on in year one, then offload them to the trade.
So commonly you will see nearly new cars with 25k miles plus on the forecourts.

They make fantastic second hand buys though.

I am quite happy to let some-one else bear the heavy depreciation!

Not only Virgin who uses them. Also Emirates Airlines and some other ones to ferry around the First and Business Class passengers.

Cars with better comfort that the S80 is hard to find.

The S80 is, however, quite popular in other countries.
