Default Auxiliary belt tensioner fitted to the C70 2.0D engine

Good evening everyone - has anyone had experience with the auxiliary belt tensioner fitted to the 2.0D engine which is in a 59 plate C70.

None of the forum or u-tube clips seem to say anything about the design on these cars. This one does not have a "Torx" fitting to wind back the tensioner arm and I just need to understand how this one is moved before completing the task.

If anyone has any ideas or can point me in the direction of a picture or two that would be great. I have seen some replacements that are "similar" but the detail in these pictures is not high enough to determine how they work.

I have enjoyed reading through the information within this forum.

It has a conventional hex head - I think it’s an 18mm socket or spanner you need. You get much better access to it if you remove the wheel arch liner, engine under tray and then remove the two 19mm nuts from the drivers side engine mounting whilst supporting the engine with a jack. Then you can lower it gently a couple of inches - this work takes only another 10-15 min and gives much bettter access. It sounds a lot more dramatic than it is.

When you wing it back to release the belt tension, there are two holes the align and you can lock it off by inserting a drill bit.

When you get to it a socket on a long breaker bar is best.

Excellent Tannaton - very helpful - you are right, when the technique is correct, the task is much more straight forward. The reason for the job is that the alternator needs changing. Just need to fit the new one now. Kind regards Paul
