Keyless entry is on my ex-demonstrator XC60. Whilst it is convenient, I wouldn't have specified it myself. Like you I don't mind clicking a button to unlock and lock the car. The security issues can be mitigated by storing the keys in a Faraday pouch.

I had a problem with my V70 when I stopped near a fuel station some time ago, The car would not start/lock I had to insert the key fob in the slot provided which after that I never had another problem. After that it worked as it should do. But what I did find out from a friend of mine as he used to recover vehicles in the event of a breakdown etc was that if the car was parked near a police station, library, supermarket these type properties are used for the police where transmitters are on the roofs and the signal can be corrupted by that.

There is one antenna on each side of the car for keyless entry but I don't know their exact locations. I'd guess it's in the B pillar at glass level so that might be a good place to hold the key near if having problems.

The rear antenna is located between and below the 3rd row seats and can be seen by lifting the boot floor.

Opt for the standard remote entry, and there is no slot required for key when starting. I just keep mine in my pocket. As long as the key is somewhere in the front of the car it will start. If key is in coat pocket on back seat it will not start.

Slightly off topic I know, but washed my car for the first time today and found that if I sprayed water anywhere near the door handles the car would unlock, keys were in my pocket, if it was unlocked and water went near the handle again it locked. Started to drive me mad so I ended up leaving the keys inside the car to stop it doing it

This happens on most (all?) cars with keyless handles. Usual advice is to keep the key away from the car when washing.

Had keyless on my last XC60,it didn't do it on that, guess the newer systems are more sensitive.

If your car was then knicked with the key in it you would most likely not get a penny from your insurance company.....

To unlock my xc60 and open the boot I have to use the button, but I then keep the key in my pocket, no slots nothing, easy and possibly less hassle and cheaper.
