Default 2015 Xc60 D5 coolant behaviour

Good morning, I am after some advice from the D5 guru’s.
My car is a 2015 xc60 D5 AWD With 90k Full Volvo service history. Had radiator replaced nearly 1 year ago due to common small leak from lower corner.
Since then I have been having some weird coolant levels.
So starting from topped up to MAX when cold every 6-8 weeks (2000 miles) the coolant level will go from Max cold to just above the MIN cold.
If I unscrew the reservoir cap after its been sat all night I get a slight hiss and the level will slightly rise, but not always.
No leaks anywhere everything is bone dry.

Question is do these systems take a while to fully bleed out when you have done a radiator change (possible air pockets still in the system?)
Car runs absolutely perfectly no overheating or anything. Just something I have noticed over the past 6 months.
Thanks in advance.
Ross

No this is not usual behaviour , you have combustion gas coming from somewhere . Air bleeding is not an issue it bleeds on the first drive .

you could try gently releasing the pressure when hot , then when you get to your destination try again and see if any further pressure has built up ..

This is slightly controversial and certainly not recommended by Volvo but does work more often than not if you have a head gasket or fracture leak....

Try this :

https://www.ebay.co.uk/i/17425094605...RoCxXAQAvD_BwE

Or this :

https://www.amazon.co.uk/StreetKA-Cy...a-875966297690

See if that stops it?

Is Head/head gasket failure on these a thing then? Thought the d5’s are bullet proof? Only 5 years old aswell.
Is very strange. If I start the car from cold and run it for 5 mins then turn it off and check for pressure there is nothing there. Only when its been run up to full temperature does it retain some pressure.

It wont be headgasket failure , The gasket is several layers of stainless Steel .
Most likely a cracked liner worst case .

That is quite worrying. Do you see many of these? Is it a design fault with the later engines?

There were a few cases around 2009 to 2012 ish not an epidemic by any means . Most were dealt with by Warranty It was since the engines were built in the Ford Engine Plant in Bridgend .

When did they stop building them in Bridgend?
Hopefully this isn’t the issue. Just ran it up to full temp. Top and lower rad hoses don’t feel over pressurised. Water level raised up about 10mm

When the D5 finished 2015-16

Do you have to top up the bottle? or does it just go up and down a bit which is normal as it heats and cools ...

Yes it was on low end of June so topped it up to max. Have done about 2500 miles since and it’s now half way between max and min.
