Default Why no DPF core replacement?

Recently sourced a 2008 XC90 and the next 3 out of 4 ownership days were spent wrestling with the car in limp mode/soot filter full. Not a great first encounter with the brand - fortunately, other aspects of the XC90 offset it. So far...but the clock is ticking..

Out of curiosity, I've pulled the DPF off to inspect and better understand its construction, noting the issues with DPF removal starting to creep onto regulators radar: https://www.theguardian.com/environm...-for-transport

It's easy enough to see how people cut and strip them, but why is there no service that offers a core replacement? Mine seems in pretty good shape aside from the core..anyone else encountered a shop/vendor that does core replacements? I've been tempted to do the cut/shut and ECU remap, but can foresee longer term issues in doing so..

It's the core that costs the money, so it would be uneconomic to offer any type of exchange part.

Gutting a DPF is an MOT failure point and a breach of the emissions laws, so is a criminal rather than civil law infringement.

If your experiencing issues immediately after purchase then you have bought a faulty car. I would of thought the correct action here would be to go back to the person who sold you the car and ask them to fix it or return your money.

For what it's worth, a blocked DPF is a symptom, not the actual problem. If a regen does not cure it, then it is unlikely to be due to the lack of motorway miles needed to keep it free. The next main culprit is the pressure sensor for the DPF giving a false reading. After that, leaky injectors, air intake leaks, glow plugs, blocked egr valves, high oil consumption can all lead to DPF failures.

Whats the mileage on your car? If its over 150k I'd wouldn't be surprised if the DPF is clogging because its burning oil.

The metal work around the core is cheap, probably only 5% of the overall cost so its not worth offering a replacement core.

Thanks, this is exactly the course of action I'm taking. Dropped it back to them after Volvo dealer did a dpf regen and noticed the swirl valve assembly had been completely bodged up with a silastic repair job, no actuator arm is evident, so swirl valve assembly is in fixed position - vehicle ran nicely for 24hrs before dpf clogged again, headed straight to the dealer in limp mode. Now awaiting the outcome of their 'volvo specialists' work + investigations..preparing the paperwork necessary for defensible refund argument..
