I absolutely love the 7/9 series volvos. to me, there are all the car you would ever need. They are fast enough even in todays fast paced world, they have all the mod cons that i could ever need - heated seats, mirrors, aircon, a huge boot, great turning circle, cheap maintenance etc) but i would never pay that for one.

I know from looking around and from this thread prices have gone up, but i think £1,500 is plenty for a decent, straight 940.

Service history wouldn't bother me too much. If its managed to get to 100,000+ miles, its obviously been looked after and the first thing i do when i get a new car is service it anyway.

These ones for mega money are always for sale for months, maybe even years.

I've never really thought of my 940 as an erupting volcano

More of a simmering saucepan

There are several things wrong with that advert Eric, mainly to do with the location and phone number.

The STD code quoted is 01353 which is Ely in Cambridgeshire. yet it states the seller/car is in Downham Market in Cambridgeshire. In fairness i know of some villages that are close to the county borders so the postall address might be Ten Mile Bank, Downham Market, Cambs but have an Ely STD code.

Doesn't surprise me, the Post Office are responsible for post codes and postal addresses and BT are responsible for phone numbers. Neither play by the same rules but it makes life interesting!

As for Traction Control, i don't believe (but might be wrong) that was ever fitted to any UK 7/9xx models, even as an option - many people confuse the ABS warning light for Traction Control so assuming that's the case, it has ABS but not Traction Control.

The advert is very quirky and some will like that. Others not.

Either way it's a lot of money for a 22 y/o car and it seems they have a format for their ads :

Service History Is Mainly Mercedes-Benz Main Dealer & Mercedes Specialist.

~

Our Mercedes W210 2.0 Petrol Power Plant

Erupts, Spilling Power Like A Volcano, & Spitting

It Forth Like A Pyroclastic Cloud

~

A Wonderful & Deliciously Sumptuous Mercedes Quality Interior

From their other live listing! The rest of the ad is almost word-for-word the same with "Volvo" replacing "Mercedes" etc.

Yes, that one was dodgy, and this one in Lytham St Annes works from home and is asking £8.5k for a 940 or a 240, and £6k for a 740. https://www.davidstockton.co.uk/cars...togl/245169/15.

"Spitting It Forth Like A Pyroclastic Cloud"

Sounds like a blown head gasket to me!

I am very excited about the likelihood of an increase in prices of these cars. If I have to sell my '90 745 and its breaker clone it will be on eBay. Hopefully I might be able to get back the price I paid my own firm to buy it in 1996 + inflation. Bob

I think prices of the turbo cars (especially manual) will rise more than others as the price of the japanese RWD cars suitable for drifting continues to rise sky high, Apart from BMW's the 700 and 900 series Volvo's are about the only cheap RWD cars left!
Considering how many were made, i think they are a pretty rare sight these days.
i have been surprised at some of the silly prices i have seen them advertised for on ebay but as said before they rarely sell. i reckon 2.5 k is a fair price for a decent turbo manual car these days with average mileage. 3-3.5k for an exceptional example, i don't think that they are 'sexy' and desirable enough to ever reach big money, i have been very surprised at T5-R values recently...imo a modded 940 is WAY better!!

As someone who prefers n/asp autos, that makes me very happy! As our USA cousins say, "There ain't no replacement for displacement" and i'd rather have a big engine than a smaller forced induction engine anytime.
