thanks for that, got her home now, bit more rust then we thought (mostly minor, just in alot of different spots) but mechanically tank, 'box feels real nice and motor drives great and has 140+ comp in each cylinder.

Any pictures of the 144 you can post?
You might also like the drag-race 164 turbo picture/video that were sent in to my thread in the Project section John |

unfortunately all is not as it seems, took it to the mech today and he basically told us to get rid of it, several spots of structural rust underneath, bog under both front and back windscreens, front doors are unrepairable and there is small sections of rust in nearly every panel, 1/4 vents are held inplace by tape, clutch is stuffed, and over here in Aus these cars are so unloved you can hardly give them away, so it just seems pointless to spend the money on it. so Im taking the motor and 'box as spares for my 'zon, the tyres for the beetle, n the rest is going to the local Volvo breaker.

Ah, thing is to find a mechanic who doesn't dislike Volvos.

if it had a market value we may consider keeping it, but we could sink $2000 into it to get it on the road, n if we want to replace it we might get $200 for it. instead i have a bug which i have spent $350 on so far, and i will get back every cent i put into it if i have to sell it at any stage.

If anyone in Victoria, Australia wants a free 144S all you gotta do is let me know and possibly give me a hand taking out the motor and box, the rest is yours!
