2003 V40 1.9 diesel
Hi guys, I have had a good many Volvos over the last twenty-odd years including an S40 petrol, but I am currently looking at purchasing a 2003 V40 1.9 diesel (think this has the Renault engine?). I know nothing about these, can anyone offer advice? The car is being sold on here by a very genuine guy, has 139k, is in excellent condition with excellent history. Any comments and advice would be greatly appreciated as always.

We have had three S40s and two V40s in the family, one of these a pre facelift phase 1, the rest have been post facelift phase 2 cars. Despite having owned the bigger 850 series, I rate the 40 series highly.
Plus points are they are comfortable, good to drive and the Renault diesel, despite not being in any of my 40 series cars (albeit in a 440 of mine) are tried and tested. These cars can and do suffer from corrosion to the front wings (although these are not hard to find), as well as other areas such as rear arches and occasionally sills. All 40 series cars are getting old now, however. The one you are referring to for sale here looks a very good example, and will be the later iteration of the Renault 1.9D. I'd certainly be tempted by it myself. Hope this helps.
