Default roof replacement

Hello there,I wonder if anybody can advise me on transplanting a complete roof from an early 244 (or even a 144 if I could find a rustfree one) onto a '72 ('73 model year) 144.I have this 144 which is really solid, low mileage and clean inside, but has a really rusty scuttle, gutters and rear window surround.I've done quite a bit of bodywork on 140s/240s over the years and it looks to me as if the "nicest" way to clean up this 144 would be a roof transplant.Has anybody done such a thing? Thanks for reading, Chris

I haven't as yet done this one myself but would certainly contemplate. My friend who does bodywork reckons it is quite easy - the main aspect is to stagger and reinforce the joints in the pillar. careful measuring and checking as you refit would be essential. If you need further advice/guidance just ask.

Exclamation Roof replacement,

Hello folks, Been pondering doing a reply to this thread for some time now, but only just plucked up courage as I am very new to this forum lark.
Back in the early eighties I observed on number of occasions roof and rear end repairs to 240's. Not being a bodywork man, may I suggest that before you start any cutting you might clean up the seams to expose the spot welds on your 140 and presumably a donor 140/240 to measure and check the various joints. An area which may prove difficult is the rear wing to quarter piller join, always requiring awkward filling. Early 140 roof to rear quarter pillar joints may have been in different position's filled and painted, whereas 73' onwards and 240's were filled, painted then diguised with stainless decal's.(later coloured coded). Sorry to ramble on but some useless info may be of help.
Good Luck
Bryan
