Default Idle Issues: Please Help Me!!!

Hello. When I am in “park” the car idles at 1900 rpm’s. When I am in “drive” waiting at a red light, she idles around 150 rpm’s but will occasionally fluctuate between 150 – 900 rpm’s but usually drops immediately when I hit around 5 mph. I have heard several things. Running rich, air auxiliary valve, etc. Can you lead me in the right direction? When that idle drops, the exhaust smell damn near kills me. Please get back to me. Cheers! Erik

Off the top of my head - idle contacts in the throttle butterfly position thingy - should be easy enough to take the cover off, check the contacts are indeed changing state when the butterfly is closed and squirt some contact cleaner on them.

Also check the contactpoints at the bottom of the dizzy. The're two sets of them, clean them by running a piece of thick paper through. They can get contaminated by the lube from the dizzy axle. You can't adjust them, so just place them back after cleaning but first put a little bit of grease on the small fiber cam's.
Another possibillity could be a vacuum leak in the diaphragma of the map sensor. Disconnect the hose coming from the intake manifold to the map. Suck on it and feel if the map is holding vacuum. If not either the hose leaks or the map is gone... Running very rich is one of the symptoms.
Here is a great site with lots of info on the Djet and much more tech.info.
