G/box: 164 4 speed/OD: - M410: what colour...?

Hi,

I have bought a used m410 gearbox for my 164. I want to paint it before installation. It seems to have traces of both black and red paint on it.

Can anybody tell me what colour it would have been originally?

I think that all gearboxes of this era are finished in a smooth red oxide paint. Might be wrong though. Certainly M40 and M41 are.

The M410 is supposed to be black.
