Default V70 D5 Power/Electric loss

Hi all, wonder if anyone could advise on some Electrical gremlins ?
V70 D5 2004 Estate Auto 138000 miles. This is a problem that has happened twice to date and builds in stages, last time yesterday.
Firstly 'Air bag service' warning constantly displays no matter how many times it is cleared, don't know if this is related ? The first sign of this rearing its head is a clunk in the drivetrain when taking power or changing gear, this gets more frequent followed by a random message such as 'left rear door open' (it isn't). this is followed by ' critical brake failure, stop immediately' (brakes are fine). Soon after this the car loses electrics, lights, indicators, instruments, gear selector, elec windows and goes into limp mode with reduced power. Once home i disconnect the battery for a couple of hours, reconnect and it will be fine for a few weeks ? Any ideas would be appreciated.
Stu.

Assuming your battery and charging system is in good health, my first thought is that the driver's information module (DIM) is faulty. There's lots on the forum about it.
A forum member repairs them for about £80 plus shipping both ways.
