Police Spec MY2011
So I got the "build" list of my XC70 when I popped into the dealer yesterday. Some of it informative but some of it less so!
First thing that I can see is that under the Variant it is Police - RHD, fair enough. There are a number of factory options including 998111 - Police Basic Outfit Engla 998195 - Additional Police Configu Anybody know anything about those options and what they included?? There are then 11 pages of "Variant Attributes", most saying what was NOT included such as KK01 ACESSORY USB UNIT - Without Accessory USB Unit & so on. There are some things not so clear on and others that are simpler to understand 2230 ADM.FAMILY AFTERMARKET - Four-C shock absorber, standard Does that mean it is Four-C or just using the shocks? There's no Four-C controls on the dash. CR02 ALTERNATOR - Alternator 180A CS06 BATTERY - H6 70ah 760 Cold Cranking Ampere Which I guess is an uprated alternator/battery to standard? But then we have 5601 BIGGER BATTERY - Standard battery Hmm... 8218 CABLEHARNESS FLOOR - Extra variant 8009 CABLEHARNESS COCKPIT - Extra variant 8198 CABLEHARNESS ENGINE AREA - Extra variant 8419 CABLEHARNESS ROOF - Extra variant 9102 CABLEHARNESS TUNNEL - Extra variant But not for Infotainment, so guessing uprated wiring harnesses 8E05 CCM - Extra variant And a CCM is what? RA04 CHASSIE TYPE - Chassi Police I've heard that its a "strengthened" chassis but where? 8C01 CONTROL UNIT DOOR - Extra variant What's that? DR01 ENGINE COOLING FAN PERFORMANCE - Fan high performance Good to know 260G ENGINE OPTIMIZATION AFTERMARKE - Engine calibration police Oooh - intereresting. What does that mean? G601 FUEL TANK, VOLUME - Volume 70 Litre Useful to know KA03 SPEED LIMITATION - Speed limit 210kmh That's about 131 mph - didn't know these cars were limited. R139 WHEEL - A 17' 7.5x15x55 RE02 WHEEL BRAKES TYPE FRONT - Brake discs 17,5 FNR RK04 WHEEL BRAKES TYPE REAR - Big EPB (Electrical Parking Brake) calliper, ventilated disc Its got big brakes There's also sorts of other stuff, mostly "Without" as well as country specific things too but that's the most of what I thought was either interesting or wanted to know things about. As well as uprated brakes, I think its got uprated suspension of some type. Also wondering if the ECU has been tweaked as I know on later Police Spec that was an option. Any questions, comments or pointers gratefully received!

I can answer some of this but first a bit of background. The police spec cars are built on the standard production line and then taken to the Special Vehicle Centre for conversion into a Police car. Every Swedish Police car is also converted there as are all the Swedish taxis all V70 diesels.
Standard parts are stripped out and replaced with updated parts so as you have mentioned unrated alternator and battery to support all the additional equipment to be fitted. Unrated brakes and suspension and even heavy duty alloy wheels. The additional wiring is part of the preparation work for the apolice euipment to keep the loads and the EMC from effecting the standard Volvo equipment. The engine Optimisation is Volvos in house upgrade to try and keep up with the BMW 530d but they never quite managed it. In theory it should have been put back to standard before the vehicle was sold. Not sure if this every happened though.

Have a look at this - it's in Swedish but if you waz forward to 9 mins you get a look in the Volvo Police Car factory.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oPOSbBXeWuQ Volvo took their Police cars seriously and used to market them separately, they used to add extra wiring etc to make fitting them out easier. With regard to the speed limits, I have in my head that early XC90 and XC70 were limited to 120 mph regardless of engine.

I also wonder if that should have an insurance implication too as the car is not quite the ES its described as.

Hi,
Yes I would recommend informing your insurer of the vehicle specification just to be on the safe side. Regards, Dan. |

Hi again, I'd certainly let any insurer know it's Police spec and not necessarily how it left the factory. If there are any performance enhancing modifications pushing up the power you'd be wise to let them know. Additionally, if any of the Police spec you'd wish replaced in the event of an accident - again please let them know. Thanks Dan |
