I can see the car is in good hands, good luck with the twins! Oooh, that didn't come out right. How about: no-doubt the car will be ready in time for you to focus your energies on the twins? Anyway, good-luck with both.

All the metalwork on underside is now finished. I have shot blasted it to bare metal and spray-painted it with 'Rust Bullet'.

Thanks Mitch! Amazing how what started out as a 'just get it through an MOT' turned into a full scale resto!
I've bare metalled and painted the block too. More pics over the next couple of days...

I'm going to shot blast and paint the engine bay, boot and inside floor pans. Will seem like a nice job compared to the underside!

looking tremendous Gordon.
Now you have spent so much time on it have you any plans for what it will be eventually?
Standard concourse? Tuned and sporty? Keep or sell?

Hi Jimbo,

It's going to be a 2nd family car, but I plan to copy the performance mods I made to my P1800 and install a Lambda sensor. I plan to buy an OBD oxygen / fuel ratio meter and modify the needles to try to get the mixture right (running twin SU's) through the whole rev range. Well at least that's the mid to long term plan. No plans to sell it.
I have some thoughts about the rims. If you'll forgive my rather crude Photoshop efforts, I quite like the idea of modifying the standard rims and hub caps to look like this (but with whitewall tyres too)... a bit more of a 50's look...

If it's any help, that looks pretty similar to a Cragar or Wheel Vintiques Smoothie. These are available in either chrome or primer (i.e ready for top coat) finish. In 15x6J flavour, these are either a 3 3/4" or 3 5/8" backspacing, so pretty much the same as the factory backspacing.

Thanks for showing us those Paul. They are just beautiful.
Not sure if my modest pocket can stretch to them as they'd need new rubber as well.
I might still try flattening an embossed standard hub cap in the wheeling machine and see how it turns out. As far as I recall, they are made from stainless steel, so may polish smooth without having to be re-chromed. If that doesn't work, then they may look ok with just the black paint removed. I was just going to weld up the oval vents in the standard rims and use the standard beauty / trim rings. That way the only cost is my time and I'd be able to go with the reasonable standard tyres I've already got. BUT having seen the chromed smoothies -it's just not the same! Ooh decisions decisions..
