Default help needed or car goes

ok had car down to volvo today they read the codes and all it came up with was misfire on no4 cylinder no codes nothing, they r saying it cant be the ETM as no code is logged for it, they want the car for a day to do tests on the ECU at my cost.

is this an ECU issue or ETM he didnt really seem to know much about it, i dont want to be paying out im guessing £300 for a few hours labour if its not needed as u can probably understand

any help here would be appreciated as im getting really p***ed off now with the car and i thought volvos were supposed to be good reliable cars, not true so far.

If the only code is misfire on cylinder 4 why dont you investigate this? A set of new plugs and have a look at the coil on cylinder 4 .... and fit a second hand coil and see how it goes
No fault codes is a good sign , a faulty ETM will post up fault codes , This wont be an ECU ...

ok thanks for the replys, the car has had 5 new coil packs fitted, 5 new spark plugs twice, the coil pack on cylinder 4 has been swapped with no 3 cylinder as i know this is working yet still have misfire. it has also had new oil and filters inc fuel filter, injectors checked new air filter.

the strange thing is at above 3000rpm no4 comes back on and works ok????

very weird

No, as I've never heard of the ETM causing a misfire on one cylinder I don't see how changing the ETM will fix it. Wish I could offer you some more advice but you've already done all the diagnostics I'd know how to do on your misfire

Cheers,
John
