Judging by the towing eye being fitted I would bet snapped belts....

Hello,
I'm from France, so sorry for my poor english ! My Volvo is XC70II 2011 D5 205hp with less than 200mkm... One day, low pressure turbo broken suddenly with large quantity of smoke from exhaust and engine at full RPM. Luckily, i was able to stop the engine very quickly, 2 ou 3 second after. Theses twin turbo are very hard to find, it's Borg-Warner R25 (KP39+KP16), only Volvo have them in stock and impossible to find repair kit. I searched a lot and I found turborebuild.co.uk who sells very good quality CHRA. Unfortunately, after reassembly, the engine made a lot of noise at the crankshaft. After checking, all the oil pressure went into the turbo and the connecting rod and crankshaft bearings were no longer lubricated. Engine dead... D5244T10 is very hard to find and very expensive ! about 4000 euros, a little cheaper in the Netherlands or Sweden. But the engines are still without accessories. With a lot of luck, I found an engine in Switzerland, 130000km, with service book, injectors, pumps, turbos and many other elements for a very interesting price! |

First step, is to prepare the new engine !
New belts and tensioner, new water pump, hoses quality and complete verification ! Engine perfect and ready. I chose to leave the original turbos and injectors. The less you touch these elements, the less trouble you get into!! |

I think that oil seal from intake side of turbo fail suddenly. Before, oil level never move and I never see white or blue smoke from exhaust. when changing the turbo, I was able to test it with an assembly in my workshop. I sent 1 bar of pressure through the oil inlet and all the pressure came out on the intake side. I did the same test on the second turbo and of course nothing came out. All the oil pressure came out through this turbo and went back up into the intake. I removed at least 1 litre of oil from the intercooler! |

For remove this BIGGGG engine, you need remove before :
- battery, filter - all hoses - electrical harness - front and rear shafts - exhaust You don't need remove gaz from climat, just push compressor near radiator without removing hoses. And after, the baby come ! You just have to tilt it a little |
