I think the quality of these Volvo's is pretty crap on the whole, mostly to blame is Ford but Volvo parts themselves are no longer as good as they used to be, I'd argue they're no better than any other car in terms of quality and reliability these days.

Hit 200k out of my old T4 and that was fairly well tuned and was still on the original clutch.....

What are you replacing the C70 with?
The 5 pot cars use Volvo clutches. THey also don't seem to suffer the alternator issues of the 4 pot C1 platform cars. I'd agree that there are quite a few FoMoCo components that do like to fail, particularly damper and suspension component life is a bit weak by Volvo standards, but I think the bodywork in particular is still of exceptionally high quality. They are certainly ageing far better than mainstream stuff, so I think to call them crap is unfair.

They also don't really count as modern Volvos, the design work must have started 20+ years ago and they have been on the market for 15 years. It'll be interesting to see how the cars designed and launched without Ford influence turn out; certainly in the case of Jaguar it appears that they've gone backwards. My XC60 has just turned over 3 years old and has never been back to the dealer for anything except servicing, which is fairly unusual for a brand new car.

As for a replacement, I am picking up a new MX5 on September 1st, and I'll be using my XJ8 or XC60 for stuff where the MX5 is not appropriate.

For context, I have three children...

I’d second that suggestion.
170k on my D5 V50, not a hint of bodywork issues, original clutch despite remap over 100k miles ago, but a new condenser, replaced lots of top mounts , drop links, dampers are shot (no, I really haven’t got round to it!). Anything stamped FoMoCo is somewhat limited in lifespan.

I had an email from Don regarding the MTE map as was looking to get this myself.

Unfortunately the owner of MTE has closed down business and they are no longer able to offer the map.

Along with Shark being gone and the RICA supplier in norfolk it looks like map options are running low!

Plenty of options about! Shemtek in Notts, Tim Williams, and just about any reputable tuner in your locality should be able to remap the Bosch EDC16 ECU these cars use.

Wish it was the same for the T5.

The fastest of the lot yet very few options for even a bog standard map now

I suppose I mean reputable remaps which are the recommended on this forum for the D5, Shark, RICA, Celtic, MTE.

Living in Norfolk its a trek to get anywhere but there is some tuners in Norwich. I will have a chat with them if it shouldn't be anything out of the ordinary.

Would this be Jackson's C30?

Just thought I'd update this. I sold the car to a colleague just over a year ago, and it's flown through it's MOT as usual. She's been through some tyres because she clips kerbs a lot but aside from that it's been fine.

I did look at a late P3 V70 T6 with the Polestar map last month to replace my XJ8 but bought a Mercedes S600 instead, to go with the MX5. I still look admiringly on the rare occasions I see a C70; they're aging well and the pre facelift cars look particularly handsome to my eye.

And to piggyback, I scratched the C70 itch in May, buying a 2007 T5 auto, which we like very much
