Default Lights

My wife’s XC70 is approaching 200,000 miles. It’s been unbelievably reliable and still is.
We are expecting our first grandchild any day now and the good lady has expressed a desire for a bigger/ taller car to aid baby loading and carrying clatter which comes with the new small person.
The only issue we have had with her XC70 has always been the terrible lights on it. We have had them adjusted and fitted brand new correct expensive bulbs to little or no avail.
Within our probable budget is a Range Rover sport- I drive a Disco 3 with 200,000 plus miles with fabulous lights- and the XC90 that she’s always liked.
In a 2012/5 plate XC90 will we still have the awful lights fitted? It’s a deal breaker if so as we drive a lot at night on poorly lit roads to the point where we choose to take my Land Rover almost every time in the dark these days.

The lights on my XC90 Exec are fine.
Should a bulb blow ( indicator or side light ) the light buckets are easy to remove - a brilliant design.

Lights good on headlight alone not just main beam?

The headlights are Active Bi-Xenon projectors.
They bend slightly in the direction you are turning.
They can also be switched to lhd at the press of a button when you drive in Europe.
I find them very good at night, especially on full beam on unlit roads.

Having driven a couple of Range Rover sports and a full fat Range Rover (2016/17) I can say that the active bi-xenons are as good on the dip, if not a little better and in the spread and are better on the full beam as the XC90 has additional main beam that is 65w as well as the xenon.

Pick carefully - on the XC90 of that year you need a "Lux" spec or above to get ABL lights as standard - i.e. SE Lux, R-Deisgn Lux or Executive.

The 2011 R-Design had the active bending bixenons fitted as standard then. Mine has them (and is also up for sale in the next week due to a 2021 xc90 arriving). Black with 105k miles and no issues and owned for last 9 years...

Changed the bulbs a couple of years back as they loose power as age for Philips Xenon X-treme Vision gen2 and these are even better than the original bulbs. Great for night driving
