Default wheels

Wheels will be the deciding factor. You will need 17" to get 320mm discs on. Not every 16" rwd wheel fits 302mm discs too. You will probably be wise to get the wheels sorted first then see what sized brakes will fit under them.

I am pretty sure 17" will clear them, so not really a big deal

Got a set of Tethys on Spacers, but yeah, i might venture this route and see if its possible, one question though, since i haven't done a 302mm upgrade, so where does the 4 6.3mm spacer washer go ? I know 2 of them go between the hub and the carrier, but where does the other 2 go ?

I've done this upgrade on my 940 today. It went together nicely but I'm underwhelmed by the performance. I think my master and or servo is knackered so want to upgrade them. Steve, I notice you said there was a big improvement from doing that, but not sure what it is you fitted, or from which model?

Can you remember what they were off?

Thanks in advance, and great great thread btw!

I read this thread with great interest, it is very informative, thanks!

My 740 hearse has rubbish brakes, it's an automatic 2.0 n/a and sometimes you do have to stand on them to stop quickly! So when it has been motorhome converted (so much heavier) I do worry about the brake performance - maybe an upgrade would be beneficial. It has 17" wheels too, so there seem to be options.

Is there value in this being a sticky, mods?

It is a sticky.
If you want to go a bit further regarding brake performance the later 940's have a better brake booster set up.
Fresh brake fluid also would be beneficial.

Not been on here for ages. I've just been fitting new rear calipers as they have seized and think the master cylinder needs replacement now as well.

The later servo gives more assistance and when Volvo changed to this they also changed the brake pedal to give less pedal movement.
