It doesn't quite look like either of those examples. Similar though, with the graduated scale.

Now it's showing engine oil service error message and P252F code because the level is too high. It's back with him to drain some out but is there a way to syphon some off? It has the electronic dipstick, but is there a technicians dipstick anywhere? Last edited by MadAlicesDad; Feb 21st, 2020 at 11:48. |

What you need to do now is to drain the oil and filter again , put EXACTLY 5 litres back in and try it again , it would be a good idea to get the oil level gauge reset then . If the message comes up again it means someone had put the wrong quantity in when setting the gauge last oil change . Have you proof he used the correct 0w/20 VCC RBS0-2AE OIL ? If not get the correct 5 litres of this oil before doing the above . A lesson learned here ...

What I'm guessing may have happened here is that this (non-Volvo?) garage did not understand that the e-dipstick/level system does not give an instantaneous reading and so would have continued to display whatever levels were present BEFORE the oil change? A Volvo garage would have reset the e-dipstick indication to show 'max' plus the word OK to avoid this scenario although, as I found, if they don't put enough oil in then this can fool you into believing they actually put the right amount in and you'll only find out the level is wrong after covering more than 30km. I read somewhere (probably another thread on this forum) that the VEA oil level and alerts were revised. However I cannot confirm this.

If not then the system readings and warnings cannot be relied upon until the car has covered at least 30km.

Oil was drained, filter changed and oil was added. Nothing was reset. Notwithstanding the c0ck up with quantities, are you saying that something as basic as pouring oil into a hole needs specialist Volvo tools or that it just won't be accurate until after 30km?

But Volvo still messed up mine by almost certainly not adding enough oil before forcing a reset onto the system using VIDA.
