Default Water from heater vent under driver's seat

I have a problem with a lot of water collecting in the driver's side footwell front and rear. It is coming from the fan-shaped heater vent located underneath the driver's seat. When the heater fan is on water sprays out of this vent and soaks the carpet. It also seems to weep some water when the heater blower is off. Can anyone suggest how this is happening? I have very little experience working on cars, is this something that is easily fixed, or does it mean taking the car into a garage?

Thanks for you help, this looks very much like my problem. (Did search posts but missed the one you suggested, so thanks for taking the trouble to point me in the right direction.)
