I have a problem with auto gear box. The gear box has a hold facility to hold the box from going into top gear, this facility is for when towing. the problem is it will stick in the lower gear with light on telling you its in lower gear, you can press the button and the the light will go off and the box will go into top gear other times no matter how often you press hold button it wont go into top gear. My thoughts are faulty switch on gear stick or a solenoid at gearbox hopefully easy to access. If you have any knowledge on this problem I would appreciate your help I would hate to remove gearbox and send for repair if there is an easy solution. |

There are some overdrive troubleshooting tips here. Most can be done with the transmission in situ. Good luck!

Most likely the overdrive relay sticking, mine does from time to time. Also worth making sure the OD relay is properly seated in the central electrical box (fuses, relays) behind the ashtray. Relays in there seem to have a habit of working their way up and out of the sockets, despite the retaining clips.
