As I understand it there are two parts to it for petrol engines the "natural idle" which is tickover and "fast idle" where higher revs are held for a set number of seconds? Diesel test is different in this regard I believe? As for car tax/emissions I have two cars the V70 is insured for 4,000mls per year and the Omega for 1,000 per year neither car comes close to hitting those limits,so while my cars are relatively thirsty[and therefore more polluting?] compared to smaller engine vehicles am I causing more or less pollution than a smaller engine car[with cheaper tax/ved rate]doing the national average or even more?I have said for years that car tax should be scrapped and the cost added to fuel then that way those using the roads more would pay more.

I believe you actually mean 'one and the same'?
They aren't. And if you hadn't given me that 'rolleyes' emoji b0llocks I would have educated you regarding the difference.

You not understanding what 'idle' actually means does not make my post misleading.

Idle ? they rev the nuts off them
The above statement was made by Kustom 2007 so it would appear it's not only my understanding of your post that's the problem and I can understand his confusion with your misleading post. The only thing I can think about you are referring to is when the engine is being put under load.

The M-1 part I believe is a molar value which is normally a value of a chemical or substance. In this case smoke. There's a bit more to the emissions testing than the little basic testers that are widely used at the mot stations I'm afraid. That's why your ved/tax doesnt quite add up with what you pay.
