Default 2013 S60 T3 ES wheel and tyre size?

Hi guys,I'm looking to get some aftermarket rims on my S60, I've narrowed it down to two options.

Either a 17" rim with a 135/45/17 tire

Or

An 18" rim with a 135/40/18

Both total wheel diameter will end up very close to the stock fit 205/50/16 that are currently on, so won't affect the speedo much at all.

So.... The difference in the two is amount of sidewall, or comfort Vs grip Vs my preference in bigger wheels looks wise.

When it comes to comfort I'm don't mind a harsher ride, provided it doesn't get to the point where you end up damaging your rims or putting excess stress on the suspension.

So, I think what I am after is if anyone has experience with different tyre sizes on a S60 and how they felt the performance was?

Can I get away with an 18" rim or is that pushing the boundaries of becoming unpractical and even detrimental to the suspension?

Thanks all!!!!!!!!!

You have certainly 'narrowed down' your choice. That's going to be an interesting looking car with 135's on! Pictures please!

Not sure if you will need larger carriers for the 18".

I think you mean 235.

Yes sorry 235!!!!

Fitting wise I think both should be ok, probably get them from rimstyle.co.uk which provide the spigot rings that you'll need.

The car in R-design spec came with 18" wheels as standard.

There are a few makes of wheels out there which do not require spigot rings supplying the correct 63mm centre bore. After my wife ground the rim on the original Ixions my car came with I bought a set of Brock wheels which were a straight replacement.

Ok thanks.

Very tempting to go for 18", but that is 2" over stock they generally say to should only go 1 inch either way.

I am wondering if the R-Design has upgraded suspension over the base model to cope with the narrower tyre wall.

The R-design is supposed to have a stiffer setup, I have seen these cars with 19" wheels.

The previous S60 from around 2000-2009 could take 16, 17 or 18" wheels. As long as the width is the same and profile keeps the overall diameter within range then no problem.

It's really down to you and how supple or otherwise you want the car to feel. I run 16" winter wheels and tyres and 18" summer. The car does tramline a lot on 18" wheels which I don't notice on the 16's. Same car, same roads only the wheels and tyres are different.

The original S60 had rubbing plates in the front wheel arches for 17" and 18" wheels. This series 2 model does not have them and I have not heard or seen any evidence of rubbing.

I have 18" Ixion wheels with 40 profile tyres and would recommend that you avoid them, unless you like a very 'crashy' ride and significant road noise. They do look good though...

Hah "crashy" lol. I mean I don't mind that kinda solid pothole thump you get, but is it really bad? Impractical? Maybe stick to 17"?

Saying that the side profile on the 17" is only 45, but to keep the wheel shape overall the same you use 235 width tyres so they will egg out a bit off the rim.
