Default Wing mirror vandalism (V70 D5 2003)

Hard to believe but last night, despite being parked up against a hedge, on returning to my V70 I found the passenger wing mirror had been yanked forward and the mirror lens had been ripped out (by a person - not a car). Firstly why?!

I can get a replacement mirror glass OK but it seems to me the motor doesn't work v well any more - it'll go just a little up and down but not sideways at all. Any suggestions please? Should I try and remove the motor and inspect (and replace?), or have to bite the bullet and get a whole wing mirror - pity though as the main structure is fine and they are dear.

(Incidentally why would it have two wires sticking out now - they look like they are for glass heating but there are no knobs or controls for that in this car!).

Mirror glass is heated along with the rear window, on the same switch.

They do it because they can and have no conscience or decency!

The wires might also be for the external temperature sensor.
