Question Blocked rear washer on V50

After my V50 froze up the other day my rear washers are blocked. I have tried everything I can think of to unblock it with no success. All I get is a dribble. Does anyone know how to remove it so I can get better access to it? If it means a new part then so be it but I need to know how to remove it first.

Cheers

Brian

I would imagine it will need the top of the tail gate trim taking off to get to the washer then I would pull the pipe off and let some water wash through.

I have had exactly this problem too. I managed to get the washer nozzle half out the other evening, with the hope of clearing it, but could not make it come right out.

If you gently slide the nozzle down the tailgate, and get your fingernails behind the top of it, the top edge will pop out. I could not then get the bottom edge to follow suit. From what I could see, there is a spring clip here, and this would need popping out. I didn't want to do damage in the dark and cold, so I left it.

Mine is the RDesign, though, so the nozzle is hidden under the spoiler and access is almost impossible.

Thanks for your replies. I will have a go at getting at it from the inside. I did try from the outside and managed to twist it almost 90 degrees but was afraid to go a bit more in case in broke.

P.S. My dad used to have a 1956 Ford Anglia. Good car for a side valve. Only problem was that reverse was where first is now. That was a bit dodgy at times.

I just replaced my rear washer nozzle because it was squirting the car behind me, not my rear screen.

I can confirm that you have to push the nozzle down towards the window to release the top clip, then back up again to release the bottom part of the clip.

You can then pull the nozzle out and twist the plastic pipe off.

It's not worth trying to repair the nozzle IMHO, I actually ground mine down to figure out how it works, to see if I could adjust it, and I'm still none the wiser.

It's simpler to buy a new one, this is the one for my mid 2008 V50:

Mine also has a rear spoiler, it's a pain to remove the nozzle from behind it.

I managed to get the nozzle off thanks to meanchris (I'm sure you are not mean really). Before I order another one, when the nozzle is disconnected, how much water should come out of the pipe? There doesn't seem to be much pressure of water, although when I connect the nozzle there is pressure but not a lot coming out, it seems to squirt water at the very top of the window. I don't want to waste money on a new bit if it's blocked (partially anyway) somewhere else. I keep seeing 'rear windscreen one way washer valves'.
Any idea what these are and where are they?

Cheers

Brian

As I recall, the one way check valve is at the rear, under the headliner near the cargo light. With the check valve out, you should get pretty good flow. If not, there's a blockage along the pipe run.

The pipe runs from the washer pump in the front left corner, behind(??)the radiator, along the right fender well, up the right "A" pillar, to a connector at the top of the "A" pillar, back under the headliner (avoiding the side air bags), to the check valve, to the pigtail to the tailgate, and to the nozzle. Phew!.

I think you should get a pretty good squirt out of the pipe with the nozzle disconnected. I had the pipe come adrift from the rear nozzle in my car stopping the rear washer from getting any water. I thought it was blocked and kept squirting it on the way to work, only when I arrived did I discover a very wet headlining and boot floor, the motor pumps out a lot of water.

Might be worth you checking the headlining for wetness just in case you have a leak rather than a blockage.

Thanks for that. I have discovered that it isn't the nozzle that's at fault so there must be a blockage somewhere in the pipe. Will have a look when (if) it stops raining again. The pipe is definitely connected to the nozzle and there is a dribble coming out. Not sure how to remove the headliner near the cargo light.
