It's more about the fact that this impure mix can easily be combusted in each cylinder 50,000 times over an hour's drive. My wife's 2015 V60 D3 is currently quite capable of getting through 0.5 litres of oil over 500 miles. Imagine the amount of smoke and soot that 0.5 litres of burning diesel might generate. If only a small fraction of that soot remains in the combustion chambers then it's a big problem. |

The DPF catch most of it and this is why we don't see anything at the exhaust, but as we know some of the exhaust gases are circulated inside the engine via the EGR and this is where the problems start IMO. |
