Remap
Thinking of getting a remap done on my c30 2.0d to give it a boost. It's currently on 142k & I'm due to get its timing belt and water pump changed imminently. Is it safe/worth giving it a bhp boost with this mileage? Also, though my euro4 doesn't have a dpf fitted should I invest in a decoke?

i can only speak from Alfa 156 1.9 JTDM diesel experience ( although I now have a 1.6D c30).
i was advised by my local indy garage ( who look after Porsches etc and race/rally cars ) that if a diesel engine has more than 80-90,000 miles on it and it is on the original clutch/DMF, then it is not a great idea to remap the engine as it puts more energy/torque etc through the clutch and may result in extra wear. However, I went ahead and got a 'hard remap' on the ECU on my 156 which at the time had 90,000 on it, and the clutch was the original one. I drove that car hard but sympathetically (!) for another 50,000 miles before the clutch/DMF needed replacement. Not sure if that would apply to a Volvo, but I would be wary of doing it a a very high mileage car unless the other parts have been replaced first. |

yes should be fine, just expect for other things to wear quicker.
Has the clutch / dmf been changed? those will probably go quicker as they must be due a change if not done already?

Just had my XC70 mapped at 170k miles.
Car is '09 D5 geartronic 185 with 170k. Lots of work recently to prep for remap including new rack & pas fluid change, rocker gasket, coolant change, brake discs, pads and fluid change plus some cosmetics. I do an ATF sump dump annually (about 8-10k miles) just to keep on top of the ATF fluid as well. As Clan said, if its been serviced correctly then all should be good. I also had the carbon clean service (included in price). I don't know if this is snake oil or not but it's been done, so maybe contributes to the overall package. You can make up your own mind! So the car was never slow, even with 165k on the clock, but now the midrange and pick-up are phenomenal. Just what you need for big load lugging estate car. A really smooth map with great mid-range power and some serious top end if you need it. The engine feels much more responsive now, as if it has 'loosened up'. I'm guessing this is the feeeling the improved throttle response gives? Overall, very, very pleased so planning to get my C70 done next. She's only on 130k!!

Had my remap about a month now and fuel consumption no different. 31-33mpg for the daily (bit of stop start, dual carriageway and B roads). Missus managed 35 on a run. No different to pre-remap but I guess I do tend to use the extra omph a bit more now!
Cost was £175.
